The Election Commission issued a statement on X, saying that a false campaign is being run to discredit the biggest election ever held in the history of mankind.
The Election Commission has reacted in clear words to the alleged attempts to defame the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On Sunday, the Commission issued a statement on X, saying that a false campaign is being run to discredit the largest election ever held in the history of mankind. The EC’s statement came following recent claims made by the Congress party that it had feared rigging over the increase in the final voting percentage.
The EC said transparency with candidates and stakeholders was maintained at each stage of the election. Despite this, an attempt is being made to call the voting figures baseless, which is completely wrong. The Commission also clarified that all the electoral processes have been conducted in the most transparent manner and there is no possibility of any malpractice.
The Congress issued a statement on Saturday, saying the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections have seen an increase in the final voting percentage as compared to the preliminary figures. The party termed the hike as a sign of rigging and demanded an inquiry by the Election Commission. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit claimed that the increase showed that the BJP had manipulated the election results. Referring to a report by an organisation called ‘Vote for Democracy’, he said that the report has talked about the big difference between the initial and final figures of voting.
“As per this analysis, there is a huge difference between the figures of votes declared by the Election Commission on polling days and the final turnout percentage. If the national average gap is 4.7 percentage points, were the results correct. ’’
Dikshit also alleged that there has been an unprecedented increase in the voting percentage at the state level, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. He linked it to the good showing of the BJP and its alliance, questioning the poll results. “If you look at the state level, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha see a surprising 12.5 per cent vote increase. Incidentally, in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the BJP and its alliance did well in the elections. ’’
